Andrew Whaley is the founder of Calix, a Catholic speaker, author, podcaster, radio host, and all around distracted visionary. He grew up in Southern Missouri, behind the counter of his dad's store, watching local community happen in the context of small business. He opened his first business, a retail skateboard shop, during the summer between his Junior and Senior year of high school. A year later he walked into his first coffeehouse and was forever transformed by the experience. The potential of the form of community he saw there inspired him and he quickly dedicated his life to the idea of that "third place" as a context for a community of spiritual, intellectual, and aesthetic wonder. Diving into the industry, he worked as a barista, built and rebuilt independent coffeehouses, founded a wholesale coffee company, and owned several retail coffeehouses. In 2012 he turned to full time consulting to help others create community and make great coffee. Andrew studied philosphy, religion, and art at Southeast Missouri State University, has a degree in Liberal Arts/Great Books from Thomas Aquinas College, and has done gratuate work in Theology. Currently residing in Denver, CO, he makes coffee and ideas, and travels the country building community, speaking on various topics, and telling stories.
